What should I do before using the cooktop for the very first time?

While the cooktop is cool, wipe it with a clean, damp sponge and dry it. Then apply the Cooktop Cleaning Creme packaged with the cooktop and buff with a clean cloth. Note that a slight odor during the first several uses is normal and will disappear. (Page 4)
