Why is my espresso not hot enough?

The most common causes are cups or the portafilter not being pre-heated, milk not being hot enough, the machine needing descaling, or the water temperature needing adjustment. Pre-heat cups by rinsing with water from the hot water outlet and place on the cup warming tray, and pre-heat the portafilter under the hot water outlet before use.
