What should I do before opening the cartridge cover to protect the photosensitive drum?

Be sure to remove the cartridge in advance because the photosensitive drum needs to be protected from light when the cartridge cover is opened. When removing the cartridge, cover the photosensitive drum with 5 or more sheets of paper to block light. (Page 24)
