How do I properly wear the lap-shoulder safety belt to ensure maximum protection?

The lap part of the belt should be worn low and snug on the hips, just touching the thighs, while the shoulder belt should go over the shoulder and across the chest. Wearing the lap belt too loose could cause you to slide under it in a crash, applying force to your abdomen and potentially causing serious or fatal injuries. Always pull up on the latch plate after buckling to make sure it is secure. (Page 40)
