How do I replace the carbon brushes on the motor?

Replace both carbon brushes when either has less than 1/4 in. length of carbon remaining, or if the spring or wire is damaged or burned. First unplug the saw, then remove the black plastic cap on the side of the motor — be cautious as it is spring-loaded — pull out the brush and replace it, then repeat for the other side. When reinstalling the same brushes, make sure they go back in exactly the way they came out to avoid a break-in period. (Page 23)
