Why is my coffee maker clogging and backing up water?

Clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee can occur from: using too finely ground coffee, using two or more paper filters, using the gold-tone filter with a paper filter, or not properly cleaning coffee grounds from the gold-tone filter. Ensure you use the correct grind size and filter type as recommended.
