How do I properly connect the clamps when jump-starting a vehicle?

First, turn off the vehicle ignition and all accessories. Connect the red (positive) clamp to the vehicle's positive battery terminal, then connect the black (negative) clamp to a metal part of the vehicle's frame or engine block away from the battery. After the vehicle starts, turn off the jump starter and disconnect the clamps.
