How much detergent should I use in my dishwasher?

The amount of detergent depends on your water's hardness measured in grains per gallon. For soft water (0-3 grains), use 2 teaspoons in each cup (1/4 full). For medium hard water (4-8 grains), use 5 teaspoons. For hard water (9-12 grains), use 8 teaspoons completely full. For very hard water (over 12 grains), fill each cup completely and a water softener is recommended. When using detergent tablets or packets, use only one in the main wash cup.
