How do I defrost the ice cube compartment in my GE refrigerator?

Defrosting is necessary when frost reaches a thickness of around 1/4 inch. To start, turn the temperature control to OFF and remove food and ice trays from inside. Place a container underneath to collect water if no drip pan exists. Keep the door open during defrosting for faster results, but avoid using boiling water as it may damage plastic parts.
