Why is my refrigerator motor running for long periods?

Modern refrigerators with more storage space and a larger freezer compartment require more operating time. This is normal operation, especially during the first 24 hours after delivery, when large amounts of food are being cooled or frozen, or during hot weather and frequent door openings.
