How much detergent should I use?

The amount depends on your water hardness. With hard water (7-12 grains hardness), use completely full detergent cups. With medium water (3-7 grains), use full cups. With soft water (0-3 grains), use half full cups. Your water department or county extension agent can tell you how hard your water is. Using too much detergent with soft water can cause permanent cloudiness of glassware called 'etching.'
