Why won't the detergent cup lid latch after I add detergent?

The Cycle Indicator Dial must be in the OFF position for the cup lid to close and latch properly. If you unlatched the door and opened it mid-cycle, the Cycle Indicator Dial does not advance to OFF by itself. Rotate the dial back to OFF before attempting to close the detergent cup. (Page 11)
