How do I clean the air gap on my GSD500?

The air gap is a plumbing device that protects your dishwasher against water backing up if a drain clogs. It should be checked at least once a month. To clean it, first turn off the dishwasher, then lift off the chrome cover, unscrew the plastic cap and check for any buildup of grit—a toothpick makes cleaning easy. Note that the air gap is not part of your dishwasher and is not covered by the warranty.
