Why do I have lint or residue on my clothes after washing?

This can result from several causes: incorrect sorting (separate lint producers from lint collectors), washing too long, detergent not dissolving properly, overloading the washer, or incorrect use of fabric softener. Add detergent as the wash basket fills with water before loading clothes, try a liquid detergent, use warmer water temperature, and load clothes no higher than the top row of holes.
