Where should I install the thermostat and what locations should I avoid?

Install the thermostat about 5 feet (1.5m) above the floor in an area with good air circulation at average temperature. Avoid locations affected by drafts, dead spots behind doors or corners, hot or cold air from ducts, direct sunlight or radiant heat from appliances, concealed pipes or chimneys, or unheated/uncooled outside walls behind the thermostat.
