How do I remove the keyboard from the unit to access internal components such as the battery or WLAN module?

Firstly, disconnect any cables within the hinge cover and top cover with a screwdriver. Then carefully lift the top cover which houses the keyboard upwards without detaching it completely, allowing you to work on internal parts like batteries and modules.
