How do I force shut down the HP EliteBook 9470m if it stops responding?

If the computer has stopped responding and operating system shutdown procedures are ineffective, press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds to turn off the computer. The power button also initiates Sleep/Suspend with a brief press when the computer is on, and exits Sleep/Suspend or Hibernation with a brief press from those states. (Page 17)
