What should I do if the HP printer software installation fails on Windows?

Remove the CD from your computer's CD drive and disconnect the printer, then restart the computer and temporarily disable any software firewall and close any anti-virus software. Insert the printer software CD and follow the on-screen instructions, but do not connect the USB cable until you are told to do so.
