What should I do before using my Kenmore dishwasher for the very first time?

Before using the dishwasher, remove all packaging materials and read the entire Use and Care Guide. Scrape large food soil and hard items from dishes, properly load the dishwasher, add detergent, check the rinse aid dispenser, and run hot water at the nearest sink until hot before starting. Then press the desired cycle and option selections and press START. (Page 7)
