How do I know when the motor brushes need to be replaced?

If the old brushes are less than 5/16" long, they must be replaced with new ones. When reinstalling brushes, make sure to orient them correctly — mark each brush right or left and note which side faces up before removal to ensure proper reassembly. (Page 13)
