What type and size of batteries does the remote control require?

The remote control requires 2 type AAA-1.5V batteries. To replace them, open the battery compartment on the back-bottom of the remote control by sliding the battery door in the direction shown by the arrow, and ensure the + and - ends of the batteries line up correctly.
