How do I format a USB Hard Drive for recording TV programmes?

Connect the USB Hard Drive to one of the USB connections on the TV, switch on both the Hard Drive and the TV, then select Recordings and follow the on-screen instructions to format. Warning: formatting removes all files from the USB Hard Drive, and the drive is formatted exclusively for this TV — recordings cannot be used on another TV or PC.
