How do I set up and format a USB Hard Drive for recording?

Connect the USB Hard Drive to one of the USB connections on the TV, switch on both the hard drive and TV, then press Pause while tuned to a digital TV channel to start the formatting process. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the format — note that formatting removes all files from the drive. The USB Hard Drive is formatted exclusively for this TV and cannot be used for recordings on another TV or PC. (Page 22)
