What should I do if dishes have spotting or filming on them?

Hard water with high mineral content can cause spotting and filming. Use a liquid rinse aid to condition the final rinse water and eliminate spotting and filming, and keep the rinse aid dispenser filled. Ensure water temperature is 120°F (49°C), use fresh recommended detergent in the correct amount, and check that home water pressure is 20-120 psi. You can also try a white vinegar rinse for occasional use by placing 2 cups of white vinegar in a glass on the bottom rack and running a complete cycle with air-dry option and no detergent.
