Why does the lid lock when I start a cycle, and how do I open it mid-cycle?

The lid locks automatically to allow for proper load sensing, and the Lid Lock light turns on to indicate it cannot be opened. To open the lid mid-cycle, press START/Pause/Unlock and wait for the washer movement to stop — this may take several minutes if the load was spinning at high speed. Press START/Pause/Unlock again to resume the cycle after closing the lid. (Page 5)
