How do I safely change the light bulb in my Whirlpool refrigerator?

First, unplug the refrigerator or disconnect power to prevent electrical shock. Then remove the light shield by sliding it toward the back of the compartment (or pulling it forward for crisper lights until it snaps free). Remove the burned-out bulb by rotating it counterclockwise, install a new bulb of the same size, shape, and wattage, and reinstall the light shield by reversing the removal process. Finally, reconnect the power supply.
