How should I prepare my washer if I'm going on vacation or leaving it unused for an extended period?

Unplug the washer or disconnect power, and turn off the water supply to the washer to help avoid unintended flooding due to a water pressure surge while you are away. Leave the door slightly open to provide ventilation. If storing the washer in freezing conditions, you should winterize it by adding 1 qt (1 L) of R.V.-type antifreeze to the drum and running a Drain/Spin cycle before disconnecting. (Page 19)
