How often should I deep clean the lint screen with detergent?

Clean the lint screen with detergent every six months, or more frequently if it becomes clogged due to residue buildup from laundry detergents and fabric softeners. Wet both sides with hot water, scrub with a nylon brush and liquid detergent, rinse with hot water, and thoroughly dry before replacing. (Page 12)
