How does the Door Ajar Alarm work on my Whirlpool freezer?

The Door Ajar alarm sounds an alert tone when the freezer door has been open for 5 minutes or longer while cooling is turned on, and the tone repeats every 2 minutes. Closing the door will turn off the tone, and the feature resets and reactivates if the door is left open again for 5 minutes. To temporarily mute the tone while keeping the door open (such as during cleaning), press TEMP SETTING on the control panel. (Page 8)
