How do I safely remove and clean the filter cage?

First, unplug the appliance from the mains electricity supply and allow it to cool down before cleaning. Hold the handle and pull the filter cage downwards onto the cable, gently pull it open, and slide it off the cable. Wash the filter cage under a warm, running tap, then shake to remove excess water and leave to dry naturally. (Page 7)
