How do I use this car seat as an infant carrier outside the vehicle?

To use as a carrier, squeeze both handle releases and rotate the handle to Position 1 (Carry) until it locks into place, then carry at your side using the handle. To use as a stand, squeeze both handle releases and rotate the handle to Position 4 (Stand) until it locks into place and the carrier rests on a level surface. The harness must be securely buckled at all times. Never place the carrier in shopping carts, near the edges of countertops or tables, or on soft surfaces like beds or sofas. (Pages 93-94)
