What happens when the battery is critically low on the thermostat?

At the first low battery threshold, the word BAT appears flashing every 60 seconds on the display when in the off state. At the second threshold, the thermostat turns off, the battery icon and BAT flash every 60 seconds followed by the word OFF, and in this mode it is not possible to act on the display and the relay is disabled.
