Why won't my dishwasher drain and what can I do about it?

Water not pumping out is typically caused by a clogged drain. If you have an air gap, clean it; also check that your kitchen sink is draining well, and if the dishwasher drains into a garbage disposer, run the disposer clear. If the air gap is clogged, turn off the dishwasher, lift the chrome cover, unscrew the plastic cap, and clean it with a toothpick. (Pages 16, 20)
