Is it safe to use an extension cord with my GE Profile refrigerator?

GE strongly recommends against the use of an extension cord due to potential safety hazards. However, if one must be used, it must be a UL-listed (in the US) or CSA-listed (in Canada) 3-wire grounding type appliance extension cord with a grounding type plug and outlet, rated at a minimum of 15 amperes and 120 volts.
