What should I do if clothes come out with lint or residue on them?

Separate lint producers from lint collectors in your wash loads. Add detergent to the wash basket as it fills with water before loading clothes, and consider trying a liquid detergent with warmer water temperature. Make sure you are not overloading the washer—load clothes no higher than the top row of holes in the tub. (Page 9)
