Why is the filter basket overflowing or the coffee brewing slowly?

Common causes include using excessive amounts of coffee, coffee ground too finely (not automatic drip grind), the carafe not being securely placed on the keep-hot plate, or the coffee maker needing cleaning. Other causes include a paper filter that is not open and in proper position, coffee grounds between the paper filter and filter basket, or a poor quality paper filter.
