Can the PRO TH4210D run on batteries, and what happens during a power outage?

Yes, the thermostat can be powered by batteries alone or used with AC power where batteries serve as backup. During power interruptions, the batteries will save time and day settings and continue to power the display. Two AA alkaline batteries are included in the package. (Page 6)
