Can the thermostat run on batteries, and what happens during a power outage?

Yes, the thermostat can be powered by batteries alone or used with AC power where batteries serve as a backup. During power interruptions, the batteries will save time and day settings and continue to power the display. Two AA alkaline batteries are included in the package. (Page 6)
