What gauge wire should be used when wiring the thermostat?

18- to 22-gauge thermostat wire should be used for wiring the PRO TH4210D. Shielded cable is not required. After inserting wires into the terminal block, push any excess wire back into the wall opening and plug the opening with non-flammable insulation to prevent drafts from affecting thermostat operation.
