What is the purpose of the compressor protection feature?

The built-in compressor protection helps prevent damage to the compressor by forcing it to wait a few minutes before restarting if it shuts down. Damage can occur if the compressor is restarted too soon after shutdown. During the wait time, the message 'Cool On' or 'Heat On' will flash on the display. (Page 9)
