How often should I replace the batteries, and what type is recommended?

You should replace batteries once a year, or before leaving home for more than a month, even if the low battery icon has not appeared. Alkaline AA batteries are recommended. The low battery icon appears approximately two months before the batteries are fully depleted. (Page 6)
