How often should I replace the batteries even if the Replace Battery indicator is not showing?

Honeywell recommends replacing the batteries once per year to prevent the thermostat and heating/cooling system from shutting down due to lack of battery power. Replacing batteries annually also helps prevent battery leakage that can damage the thermostat. As an additional precaution, replace the batteries when leaving your home for more than a month.
