What does it mean when 'Cool On' or 'Heat On' is flashing on my display?

The flashing message indicates the compressor protection feature is engaged. This feature prevents damage by forcing the compressor to wait a few minutes before restarting. Wait 5 minutes for the system to safely restart without damaging the compressor. (Pages 3, 5)
