Should I place the thermostat wiring in the same conduit as power lines?

No. Never place 24VAC or communications wiring in any conduit, box, channel, duct, or other enclosure containing power or lighting circuits of any type. Failure to follow this guideline can introduce electrical interference and cause the system to operate erratically. (Page 4)
