What should I do if the HP printer software installation fails on Windows?

Remove the CD from your computer's CD drive and disconnect the printer, then restart the computer. Temporarily disable any software firewall and close any anti-virus software before reinserting the printer software CD and following the onscreen instructions. Do not connect the USB cable until you are instructed to do so, and restart the computer and any security software after installation finishes. (Page 3)
