Do you have to use our app? Actually, it's not required - you can still use the handheld device by itself. Are we charging for updates? No way, they're completely free! And don't worry about subscriptions, because there aren't any of those either. How much does the app cost? Well, it's totally free with no hidden fees or subscriptions to deal with. If you do want to make some in-app purchases, that's up to you - they're entirely optional. Does this work outside of the US and Canada? Unfortunately, our scanners are specifically designed for vehicles sold in those countries, and the app will only work if you're a current resident. What about support for 2023 or 2024 vehicles? Our scanner currently supports vehicles from 1996 to 2022, but we do have an update for 2023 models in the works - and it'll be free once it's available! We also support FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) vehicles up until 2017. However, our tool is not compatible with newer FCA vehicles that require gateway access for advanced diagnostics. And as a side note, we don't do any programming of vehicle computers or key fob reprogramming. If your vehicle can't start or crank, then sadly the OBD2 scanner won't work - it needs to establish communication with the vehicle's Electronic Control Units (ECUs). This manual describes common test procedures used by experienced service technicians. Always read and follow your vehicle's service manual before doing any tests or services! When working on your engine, make sure you're in a well-ventilated area away from sparks, heated items, and open flames. Wear approved safety eye protection to avoid injury from propelled objects or hot liquids. Be aware of moving parts like the coolant fan and pulleys when the engine is running - keep a safe distance! And remember, engine parts get very hot so avoid contact with them. Before starting an engine for testing, make sure the parking brake is engaged and put the transmission in park or neutral. Block the drive wheels to prevent movement. Always turn the ignition OFF before connecting or disconnecting test equipment to avoid damage. Use a digital multimeter with at least 10 megOhms of impedance when taking vehicle electrical measurements. Keep sparks, heated items, and open flames away from your vehicle's battery to prevent an explosion - and avoid wearing loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts. The Code Reader can cause severe burns if it comes into contact with a power source and ground, so handle it carefully. The Controls and Indicators of the Code Reader include: ERASE button to erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and reset Monitor status; DTC button to scroll through LCD display for multiple DTCs; GREEN LED indicating normal engine systems operation; YELLOW LED showing possible problems with "Pending" DTC or emission monitor issues; RED LED signifying a problem in one or more vehicle systems, also used to show DTC presence. The Code Reader's LCD Display shows test results, functions, and Monitor status information. The Cable connects the Code Reader to the vehicle's Data Link Connector (DLC). The Display Functions include I/M MONITOR STATUS field, Monitor icons indicating Monitor completion or pending diagnostic testing, and icons for Link, Vehicle, MIL, HISTORY, FREEZE FRAME, PENDING, and PERMANENT codes. Connect the Code Reader to the vehicle's computer system by following these steps: Turn off the ignition, locate the 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC), and plug in the Code Reader's cable connector. Make sure it's properly connected, as the cable is keyed and will only fit one way. If there are any issues, try rotating the connector 180° or check both the DLC on the vehicle and the Code Reader itself. Once connected, turn the ignition back on but don't start the engine - let the Code Reader automatically link to the vehicle's computer. If the LCD display is blank, it means there's no power at the DLC; check your fuse panel and replace any burned-out fuses if necessary. After a 4-5 second wait, the Code Reader will retrieve any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the vehicle's memory. If you see an "Error" message on the display, it means there's a communication problem - try resetting the computer by turning the ignition off, waiting 5 seconds, and then turning it back on again. The Code Reader's status indicators include a yellow LED for "Monitor Has Not Run" and a red LED for system problems or Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). A blinking monitor icon indicates that a Monitor has not yet finished its diagnostic self-testing, while a solid icon means it has completed the test. If DTCs are present, the Malfunction Indicator lamp will light steady on, and the Code Reader will display the code(s) or "0" if none are found. The firmware version can be checked by pressing and holding the DTC button during connection. To erase DTCs from the vehicle's computer memory, follow these steps: Connect the Code Reader to the DLC, turn the ignition on without starting the engine, and press the ERASE button. Confirm the action with "SuRE?" before proceeding. If you change your mind, press the DTC button to return to code retrieval. Once all information has been cleared, the LCD display will show "0." Note that erasing DTCs does not fix the underlying problems that caused them. The codes set in the system will not be corrected until the issue is resolved. Once fixed, the codes and check engine light should reset after a sufficient test drive allows the vehicle's monitors to complete their checks. The product comes with a one-year warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and maintenance. If it fails within this period, it will be repaired or replaced at no cost when returned prepaid to the Service Center with proof of purchase.
