How do I retrieve diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from my vehicle?

Turn the ignition off, locate the 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) under the dashboard, then connect the Code Reader cable to the DLC — the Code Reader will turn on automatically and display 'rEAd.' Next, turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine, and after 10–60 seconds the Code Reader will retrieve and display any stored diagnostic trouble codes. If more than one code is present, press the SCROLL button to view additional codes. (Page 17)
