What does it mean when the Code Reader displays a 'Pending' code?

A pending code indicates that the computer has detected a possible problem but the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) has not yet been commanded on. Pending codes are confirmed by the presence of a numeric code and the word 'PENDING' displayed on the Code Reader's LCD display along with the yellow LED being lit. Most areas will allow an Emissions Test (Smog Check) to be performed if the only code present is a pending code.
