What items should NOT be washed in the dishwasher?

Items that should not be washed in the dishwasher include cast iron, gold-colored flatware, hollow-handle knives, pewter/brass/bronze, tin, wooden ware, disposable aluminum pans, and bottles or cans with glued labels. Plastic items should only be washed if marked "dishwasher safe" and should be loaded in the top rack only. Always check the manufacturer's recommendations when in doubt about a specific item.
