Engine hazards include: battery explosion risk—always wear face shield and rubber gloves when working on the battery; fuel fire/explosion risk—stop engine before checking or adding fuel and keep sparks away; moving parts can injure—keep away from fans, belts, and rotors; exhaust sparks can cause fire—use approved spark arrestor; hot parts can burn—allow cooling period before working; steam and hot coolant can burn—check coolant level when engine is cold; and never use the generator indoors due to carbon monoxide poisoning risk.
